The Hawken is a symbol of the period that saw the passage from the long and heavy small caliber Pennsylvania rifles to more practical and powerful Plains rifles and the definite abandoning of the flintlock for the far more modern percussion system. The strong barrel and the larger caliber, enabled hits on any target with surprising accuracy. This rifle soon became the inseparable friend of the Mountains men, and the most famous explorers of the American continent. The Rocky Mountain Hawken is offered with the maple or walnut stock with a barrel having 7 grooves obtained by broaching and has rust brown color finish and steel metal parts. The.54 caliber barrel has 1 in 65 twist and is 34 5/8" long.

Wanted to build a kit Hawken but this Pedersoli is about as good as anything I would want to spend the rest of my life building. Beautiful rifle and all the girls at the range and my Tupperware parties are just so jealous. A bit heavy and the barrel wedges are mucho tight when compared to the Lyman Plains Rifle, but she sure shoots like a champ.

When you open the box on this one you know immediately that you have a unique and beautiful rifle. The next big thrill comes when you shoot it... very accurate! My only complaint is s all of the printing at various locations on the barrel but I imagine that is a legal necessity. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a rifle of this time period.

The fit and finish on this rifle leaves a LOT to be desired. Wood to metal fit is sub par for a rifle at this price level and the stock finish feels like it was done outside on a windy day during a sand storm. Would I recommend it? No, not for this price.
