I had a missing ramrod for an old muzzleloader and needed these tips to build one. This is the second pair I’ve bought here. Both worked great.

DON'T LOSE THE BLACK METAL PIN. I used these to make a spare ramrod for my Lyman GPR Flintlock .54 caliber. Measure the depth to be cut by inserting a stick or nail into it and marking with tape. Use a Dremel sanding drum to cut the dowel down to the inside diameter of the tips. I used fast dry archery tip cement (DEP 30 sec. glue works) to glue them. Make sure you install the cross-pin to secure the tips. Drill a hole through the tips and ramrod after they are installed. Hammer it through and cut-off with Dremel cut-off disk. Save the longer piece for the other tip. Smooth out with the Dremel and you can peen it with a hammer. Finish wood with Tru-Oil and you have a great new ramrod that will fit the gun and also accept a muzzle guide to make it a range rod.

Don't trust the cement to secure the tips on the dowel. You need to install the cross pins to make sure the tips are secure. When you open the package, you may wonder what the short, black steel pin is for. After you attach the tips, you need to drill a very small hole through tip and dowel. Then, put the "ramrod" on a piece of softwood and hammer the steel pin through the tip and out the other side just a little bit. Use a Dremel cutting wheel to cut off the extra on both sides. Save the longer piece for the other tip and repeat this for the other tip. Once you make one, you'll want to make more!
