Instead of using a scrap of leather, many of the old timers believed the best way to secure the flint was with a lead clamp. The logic was that the lead absorbed more of the shock than leather. They claimed the flint would last longer and never shatter. Who knows? Try it and see for yourself. Packages contain 3 lead clamps. Perhaps there's another place to find these, but I found them here, and they're perfect. I decided I wanted to wrap my flints in lead, and this is just what I needed. Plenty big enough (I'll probably trim it back), and the right thickness. Thank you, October Country, this is just what I wanted!
